The Long Term Symptoms Of The Menopause

As well as suffering from those horrid, short term symptoms of the menopause, unfortunately there are some more long term ones which you also have to put up with. Whilst not every woman has the same symptoms as the next, many will no doubt experience these longer term symptoms.

Just What Are the Long Term Symptoms?

The symptoms which remain once the menopause has passed include problems such as a low libido. This is caused by low estrogen levels which stay low once the menopause has passed. So, for many women the menopause is life changing and the effects of it do stay with them for the rest of their lives.

You may also notice that the skin of your vagina becomes increasingly dry and that could be another reason why you have a lower interest in sex. If your vagina is dryer, it will become more painful to partake in any sexual activity and that can cause problems for many women and in fact it can lead to emotional problems too.

Problems such as depression can stem from the long term effects that the menopause has had on you. Whether you are depressed due to the lack of estrogen, or whether it is due to your lack of interest in sex and it is causing problems within your relationship, depression can occur and the only treatment there is, is to see your doctor.

Another symptom you may experience is bladder weakness. You will notice things which you used to be able to do now seem extremely difficult to do without causing you to urinate. Things such as laughing, running and even sneezing, can all cause you to urinate and it can be an extremely embarrassing problem for many women. Luckily however, there are exercises which you can do to strengthen your bladder so that you do not have the problems for the rest of your life.

Mainly the only things which you can do to ease the effects of these long term symptoms, is to change your lifestyle. Exercise as regularly as you can, eat healthily and cut out any bad habits such as smoking and drinking. By living a healthier life you are giving yourself the best chance of easing the long term symptoms of the menopause and you will be able to lead a normal, everyday life.
